1) Rio Grande Trail

Running from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, Colorado, the Rio Grande Trail is 42 miles of continuous multi-use trail. The trail is completely protected from vehicular traffic except at intersections, making this a perfect place to explore. Here you’ll find asphalt surfaces with some sections of concrete and compacted gravel. Make it a full day of adventure, by packing a lunch for a stop at one of the many picnic tables provided along the route.

2) Animas River Trail

Located in Durango, the Animas River Trail is a hard surface shared-use path that is great for all ages. The trail is 7.1 miles long and runs through the heart of the city, offering some stunning views and is situated as the centerpiece of Durango’s overall trail system. Along the way, you’ll have access to a wide variety of parks and natural surface trails to make this quick in-town bike ride a bit more adventurous.

3) Cherry Creek Regional Trail

This 45-mile route runs from downtown Denver to connect the suburban and rural Arapahoe and Douglas Counties. The Cherry Creek Regional Trail is a picturesque experience, where most of the trail has an 8-foot-wide concrete surface. Though in short section of the more rural southern end, you’ll find gravel trail and road. The trail parallels Cherry Creek through urban landscapes and parks into the suburbs. And in Arapahoe County, the trail emerges in Cherry Creek State Park to offer even more of a vast and wonderful experience.

4) Peaks to Plains Trail

When looking for a stunning, non-motorized adventure, then look no further than the Peaks to Plains Trail. This trail runs parallel between US 6 and Clear Creek, offering a trail without motorized vehicles. Here you can be immersed in the rugged beauty of the landscape with the views of canyon walls, native grasses, and the rushing water at the bottom of the valley. While you’re there, stop in at one of the six river access points to get even closer, or even stop in for some fishing.

5) Colorado Riverfront Trail

Coming in at 22.1 miles, the Colorado Riverfront Trail runs through western Colorado’s scenic Grand Valley. Here you will have a stunning biking adventure unlike any other. The paved trail follows the Colorado River while connecting several parks, lakes, and recreational amenities. Start at the Colorado National Monument and takes you all the way to the town of Palisade. Though there are a few branches that you can opt for in a different option as well.
